Domain of Research: Geographic information systems
Currently a Professor at the Computer Engineering Department at Kuwait University. Received his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the University of Southern California in 2000. Published 2 books, 9 book chapters, and over 116 conference and journal papers. Current research interests include social networks, complex networks, location based services, and geographic information systems. Senior Member of IEEE since 2008, and the First Kuwaiti to become an ACM Senior member in 2009. Also a member of over 12 different international professional societies. He is currently participating in several academic initiative programs offered by Sun Microsystems, Oracle, IBM, Symbian, BlackBerry, and Apple. Managed to advise over 24 graduate student projects, supervised 5 Master Theses, and was on the examination committee of 5 Master Theses and 5 Ph.D. Dissertations. Was granted over 12 research grants from research administration at Kuwait University, Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS), and other international institutions. Served on over 183 conference committees as a reviewer and/or a scientific program committee. Served as a member of steering committee, organizing committee, publicity committee of over 26 conferences. Served as a reviewer for over 40 journals, and as a member on the editorial board and committees of over 24 journals. He served as an associate editor, guest editor, and co-editor for 8 journals, and as an editor-in-chief of 2 journals. Served as a reviewer and a member of the editorial board of over 8 books. Established the first complex networks research group (Synergy) at Kuwait University, Kuwait in 2010. Was granted the first in Kuwait and second in Middle East research fund from the Office of Naval Research Global (ONRG), U.S. Department of Defense (DoF), U.S.A., 2013.
