Transportation

As you prepare for your conference, it's important to familiarize yourself with the transportation options available in this vibrant city. Whether you're staying close to the conference venue or planning to explore the city during your free time, Berlin offers a variety of convenient transportation choices to suit your needs.

Arriving at Berlin Airport:
  • Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER): One option is to take the Airport Express train, which provides direct connections from BER to Berlin Hauptbahnhof (Central Station). From there, guests can transfer to the S-Bahn (city rail system) and ride to the nearest station, which is within walking distance of the hotel. Alternatively, you can take a taxi or ride-sharing service directly from Berlin Brandenburg Airport to SANA Hotel Berlin.
Public Transportation:

Berlin has an extensive and efficient public transportation system that consists of buses, trams, trains, and an underground network known as the U-Bahn. The following options will help you navigate the city effortlessly:

  • U-Bahn (Underground): The U-Bahn is a popular mode of transportation in Berlin, with multiple lines connecting various parts of the city. It's fast, reliable, and operates from early morning until around midnight.
  • S-Bahn (Suburban Train): The S-Bahn network connects the city center with the surrounding suburbs. It is particularly useful if your conference venue is located outside the city center.
  • Bus and Tram: Berlin's extensive bus and tram network provides convenient connections to areas not covered by the U-Bahn and S-Bahn. Buses and trams typically run from early morning until midnight, with night buses operating on selected routes.
Tickets and Passes:

To use public transportation in Berlin, you will need a valid ticket. The city operates on a zone-based fare system, and tickets can be purchased for individual trips or as daily, weekly, or monthly passes. Options include:

  • Single Ticket: Ideal for a one-way journey within a specific zone.
  • Day Ticket: Allows unlimited travel within the selected zones for one day.
  • WelcomeCard: A tourist-oriented ticket that provides unlimited travel for 48 or 72 hours, along with discounts at various attractions.
  • AB/ABC Zones: The AB zone ticket covers the central areas of Berlin, while the ABC ticket extends to the surrounding suburbs.

Tickets can be purchased from ticket machines at U-Bahn and S-Bahn stations, or via mobile apps. Remember to validate your ticket before boarding or immediately after entering a bus or tram.

Taxis and Ride-Sharing:

Taxis are readily available throughout Berlin, and you can either hail one on the street or find designated taxi stands. Alternatively, ride-sharing services like Uber are also popular and offer a convenient way to get around the city.

Bicycles:

Berlin is known for being bike-friendly, and renting a bicycle can be an excellent way to explore the city. Various rental services provide bicycles on an hourly or daily basis. Additionally, Berlin has a well-developed network of bike lanes and paths, making it safe and enjoyable to cycle around.

Walking:

If the conference venue is within walking distance of your accommodation, consider taking a leisurely stroll to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere and discover hidden gems along the way. Berlin's wide streets and pedestrian-friendly areas make walking a pleasant option, weather permitting.

Accessibility:

Berlin's transportation system is designed to be accessible for individuals with disabilities. Many stations have elevators or ramps, and the city buses and trams are equipped to accommodate wheelchair users.
