Dr. Diego R. Faria [Postdoc, Ph.D., M.Sc., B.Tech] is a Reader (Associate Professor) in Computer Science (AI and Robotics) at Loughborough University, United Kingdom. From June 2022 to May 2025, he served as Reader in Robotics and Intelligent Adaptive Systems at the School of Physics, Engineering and Computer Science, University of Hertfordshire, UK. Prior to that, from July 2016 to March 2022, he held academic positions as Lecturer and then Senior Lecturer at Aston University, Birmingham, UK. Dr. Faria has coordinated multiple scientific projects in collaboration with leading European universities and UK industry partners, with a combined funding portfolio exceeding £3 million. These projects were funded by the European Commission, EPSRC, The Royal Society, Newton Fund, Innovate UK, and FCT (Portugal). His work spans Assistive Technology, Cognitive Robotics, Brain-Computer Interfaces, Artificial Perception, and Machine Learning, with applications in social and affective robotics, autonomous vehicles, and adaptive intelligent systems. Between 2014 and 2016, he was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Institute of Systems and Robotics, Portugal, where he contributed to several EU and nationally funded projects in robotics, AI, and assistive technologies. Dr. Faria earned his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering (Cognitive Robotics) from the University of Coimbra, Portugal, in 2014.
