Jean-Claude Bolay is since 1992 international consultant, expert in urban development in Southern countries, international cooperation and scientific partnersip. He has been till 2019 Director of the Cooperation & Development Center of EPFL (CODEV) and Professor of urban development at the Faculty of Natural, Architectural and Built Environment. By training, he is political scientist (with award of the University of Lausanne). As PhD candidate, he worked during 2 years in the Colegio de Mexico, in Mexico City (1982-83) and therefore in the Center for Latin American Studies of the UC Berkeley University, California (1984). From 1986 till 1989 he was a senior staff of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation in the frame of a slum’ upgrading project of the World Bank and Cameroun Government in Duala, Cameroun. He was contracted by the EPFL as leader of projects focused on urban development in Southern cities of countries as Bolivia, Argentina, Cuba, Ecuador and Vietnam, to cite some of them. Since 2001, he is director of the cooperation, heading a team of 25 collaborators. He published more than 60 articles and edit several books on urban issues in developing countries as on development and scientific cooperation. He is also Director of the UNESCO Chair “Technologies for Development” with five International conferences on the topic
