He is also an integrated researcher at the CIICESI centre, of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto, and collaborates with the Algoritmi centre, in the Department of Informatics, University of Minho, Braga, Portugal. He holds a PhD from a joint Doctoral Programme in Computer Science of three top Portuguese Universities. He develops scientific research in the fields of Human-Computer Interaction and Context-aware Computing. His main interests lie in the fields of data acquisition, storage and processing, and the application of machine learning techniques. He is especially interested in non-intrusive and autonomous acquisition of data, specifically from human-computer interaction, namely to assess stress, mental fatigue and emotions. He participated in several funded research projects in the fields of Artificial Intelligence, Ambient Intelligence and Online Dispute Resolution. He is currently participating in two national funded projects: EUSTRESS and 3SLM. In these projects he focuses on data acquisition, processing and analysis, and its use for training domain models. He is the author of several publications in his field of interest, including one authored book, one edited book and over eighty book chapters, journal papers and conference and workshop papers.
